no that's

issues
3:40
Oh
3:49
I
4:12
videotaping one hurt drinking it out
4:39
it s pretty cool come on in and I'll talk to everybody at the same time
4:47
little where our new restrooms are now and this building had fallen into a
4:55
turtle state fair it was
5:28
family were in yelm you remember his go fencing or red wine store and then the
5:34
SMA strange story frogs academy and restored the furniture here sometimes
5:39
just all kinds of things went on to this building and really without the pens of your family we would not have this
5:46
museum because they were willing to donate the building if we would turn it into a museum and so there were a
5:54
handful of us as we were able to my god 1991 were able to apply for
6:01
not-for-profit status and we opened in 1997 with the soft opening had been opened up since 1998 ever since we
6:11
completely restored the building to what Henry thrill had built in the first place in 1898 assistant photograph is
6:19
over there on the wall behind that cabinet with five of his children on
6:24
believin is why and Henry of course very active in the through engineering efforts in building
6:30
efforts and we were able to skip the walls away but left some of the plants on the walls to let the local
6:37
breakthrough stayin here the tin up here is original Victorian era and the
6:46
between the second of the first first floor it's all been reinforced and now
6:52
we have been able to initially open the second floor and we have giving an
6:59
example of quality scores or original we stripped away about three layers of tile and this is loblolly pine boughs there I
7:08
think we've replaced about six strips and we have long leaf pine upstairs and
7:15
that's all been reinvented with the help of buddy novel is his crew we've opened the Falcon II doors if you'd like to go
7:21
out on the balcony and just get a breath of fresh air and just enjoy the way that
7:28
we've arranged this in our mission statement we have to determine who we are and basically we've got all kinds of
7:36
narratives here we're very multi-ethnic with the Native American with the next
7:42
Spaniards of Mexicans Hispanics the Anglos the of the Germans and the
7:50
Unity's and we've been blessed to be able to trace our history from literally millions of years ago starting with the
7:57
cabinet right behind you over here native every 25 million years ago we were underwater thanks its many of you
8:04
will remember probably dr. Evelyn strain geologists that makes his way through
8:09
college tle you and so the first several cases have to do with when we were
8:16
underwater all of those artifacts came from here the last ice age the warming
8:22
the mastodon team the tusks and so forth the palms petrified problems to the
8:27
early late of American collection which are off here and then the key signs are most excited about because it's the
8:34
second oldest archaeological site in the state of Texas and it was discovered by
8:39
lloyd and jodi behind the old sample path will remember that district rocity
8:45
of the bridge heading southward and we have almost all of their collection at the end of the building here and we have
8:53
come a chronological display of what skin was downstairs over here and then
9:00
as you get into this part Marty where are you we stole some of yours that's a
9:05
seizure there but this would be for renovation it took my keys and we've got
9:12
the stuff independent exhibits there and then you can go up the stairs at you would lie
9:19
leon studio collection up there have worked very closely with know that Leon
9:24
for many years and we have their entire collection which includes Henry wise the
9:31
Ballard collection and a number of others and we've applied the grants from the Smithsonian Institute they not deny
9:39
this after six months so we think that we're looking good for the preservation
9:44
of and digitizing of all the negatives which there several hundred thousand and
9:50
all the photographs and all the registers so that we have this proprietary it was originally going to
9:56
the Barker center but when I heard of that I got down on my knees and elvin Leon with he is listed today here and
10:04
they were so gracious than they understood and I can't emphasize that the example that I just give me till
10:11
from thinking about it when 298 and the 2001 floods and how many families came
10:17
here after losing all of the photographs our anniversary pictures of wedding pictures
10:23
we were able to locate everyone and reproduce them for the family and that's
10:29
that's that's what that's what hometown photography is about and were able to
10:34
continue this through his family Bauman today he picks up or now that layout left off and so we've got late 19th
10:42
century all of the 20th century and going well into the 21st century purse again and guadalupe county so just make
10:49
yourself at home enjoy restaurant or through the curtains back here but we also have men and women upstairs and
10:56
water fountain over here welcome and
11:02
happy at the reunion yeah alright no
11:10
good they're going to look together well the floods agree well removed the
11:16
landscaping the robert h h upmann provided but he did do the bathhouse
11:23
building itself now people will remember the swimming pool alas it's gone with
11:28
the wind am NOT
11:36
here of 1890 maybe 95 or something about
11:42
10 years after Edison put electricity in new york city seeking out electricity EO
11:48
thanks man retro still yesterday you know remembering you know some of the
11:53
things I found out something yesterday that I didn't know the high school actually has a library I don't think I
12:00
was ever in there but but it does and for y'all over there you know a lot of
12:05
improvements great memories so that was that was kind of fun I welcome you I
12:15
hope that everybody is having fun I especially welcome the spouses I know
12:21
that sometimes that's not a very pleasant experience coming to somebody
12:28
your spouse's reunion and having to put up with with the people that you've never seen before and putting up with
12:34
their jokes and stories and that's that sometimes a little boring so I welcome
12:41
you especially I really especially welcome the people that have come from
12:46
out of state I mean there are some people that actually you travel the long distance for this and again really
12:53
really appreciate that and hope to get out of this guy
12:59
I I know that there are some some that
13:05
hope to be here I and the traveling was just a little too much form so you know
13:11
they couldn't make it and I we need to we need to think about things they really wanted to be here but for y'all
13:18
that's spent a lot of time in on planes coming here and the expense of coming here gosh be sure really appreciate what
13:32
at one of the things that when Larry sent out the original correspondence
13:38
about we were going to have a class reunion the 50th class reunion of almost a year ago we we got together and talked
13:49
about it one of the things that we wanted to make sure was that expense was never an issue and Larry would help hate
13:56
me for even mentioning this what we want to make sure that expansion is not an issue we do have however we have a
14:04
basket over at the registration table that if you want to make a donation you
14:10
know feel comfortable in doing that we're not asking for it if you if you want to put something in it great that's
14:17
the last you'll hear of that okay all right we're going to I'm sorry yes you
14:25
are what where did you come from Dickie
14:34
and I have been charged with the MCS and we're going to try to just do a little
14:42
entertaining enough well will apologize up front at least I will I don't think
14:48
nikki has ever apologized but for anything including some incidents in
14:57
junior high school but we won't go there don't leave him don't mean to hurt
15:04
anybody's feelings you weren't even there no i was i was there at that time
15:10
but don't mean to hurt anybody's feelings i hope you all have a good time one of the things that that Larry and I
15:16
talked about early on is that everybody was comfortable everybody would have a
15:22
good time we want to make sure that if you came you enjoyed it got to reminisce
15:28
with friends and had a good time only not only last night but tonight and just
15:35
really enjoy the company of classmates and just kind of summarize a little bit
15:41
about the way I feel about high school people is on the back of a on the back
15:46
of the tribute booklet there's there's a thing that the kind of explains it from high school you know all the pretence
15:54
when you get back together they all go away everybody reverts back to the same personalities that they were the same
16:00
voices and it's a good thing you don't see that because we knew we I knew how
16:08
do you grew up but but but it's okay because I accept that and I know who he
16:14
is I don't like them but I accept that but so anyway um this is hurting yeah
16:22
it's going to get worse ah but but from high school you know the people and you
16:28
know who they are and gosh getting back together i know i renewed a lot of old friendships so it's fun and hopefully
16:35
everybody here will have a good time okay that's the main objective have a good time all right we're going to
16:45
reminisce a little bit all right first of all regardless of what gym body says
16:54
there was actually a 152 people 152 classmates on our graduation list all
17:02
right that I'm going to be the official person on that 152 I counted them not somebody
17:08
were on the graduation road out of those 152 about 14 have passed away there
17:17
there's about Oh 12 or so that I couldn't find any place and then I was already tried some of y'all who who
17:25
never wants to hear are seeing email from me again i bugged y'all quite a bit
17:30
raise your hand yes to treasure it yeah I tried to get ahold of just about
17:35
everybody so when you when you narrow down the people that have passed away the people that don't exist anymore there was about 125 people there are a
17:44
little over 70 people that have responded that that they were going to
17:49
come to you know last night are today so in that that's that's half that's more than half 125 seven where where's Jamie
17:58
ding wouldn't he a math teacher is that that's half hidden yeah pretty close ok
18:06
um but that's it that's a pretty good number for people that you know are
18:13
coming to a reunion after 50 years alright different it's going to be a
18:22
book that's going to be a little gray headed man going around taking pictures time lettin Glenn Winkle there's our
18:28
photographer okay so some stats and i'm not i'm not going to give away prizes
18:34
i'm not doing oh come on the end it's
18:43
joe rocket background
19:00
okay since since Joe interrupted by my speech here I'm going to recognize joe
19:07
rogers one of our teachers JP day is
19:13
that your wife fantastic back there in ok and then James over where is he oh
19:24
there he is ok he wasn't nicely with us I think that's the only teachers that
19:30
are here ok who Oh none Becker worthy
19:43
it's good to have you all here and just just a moment I don't want to get mushy
19:49
on this and I I just wanted to make a comment that if it weren't for teachers
19:55
like you and many other ones that were in the classrooms day after day year
20:01
after year that we went to trying to mold us into some some decent citizens
20:07
you guys have done a great job if you if you take a look around
20:17
the this is a pretty good class and you know I i say that because i was in it on
20:26
yeah yeah actually compared to some of
20:32
the other ones that i won't mention this is a pretty good putt and really appreciate teachers that have helped us
20:39
along the way and they've guided us and molded us into what we are today so it really thank you let's get one more upon
20:46
for them okay now wanted some fun stuff
20:57
going back to the 152 people take away 25 you got 125 just some stats that
21:04
there's 93 of us that have been married at one time ninety-three percent excuse
21:11
me eighty-three percent of us had it had kids 71 percent have had grandkids
21:18
eleven percent have had great grandkids and there's a there's a young lady that
21:27
was over here I don't see her anymore she is one of the grandkids whether she is she's way in the back she's one of
21:34
the grandkids that's the listen to Zoomers granddaughter I fantastic as she came out and okay about fifty percent of
21:44
the people are officially retired how
21:50
many people do you think have doctoral degrees not medical degrees but phd's pork damn you're good pork more people
21:59
have actually got PhDs seventy percent of us went to college thirty-five
22:05
percent were in the military and how many boys do you think we're in the classes are class versus girls
22:15
there is 82 82 boys and 70 girls Todd I
22:21
do i do a lot of research I'm sorry I'm
22:31
sorry all right we kind of move on but
22:41
we're going to take a flashback to 1962 bear with us for a second and then we'll
22:48
get into more interesting things but some of the headlines for 1962 Kennedy
22:54
orders blockade of Cuba to prevent the missile crisis John Glenn first American
23:00
to orbit the Earth three resolute revolutions marilyn monroe died God era
23:07
there is the tragedy marilyn monroe died of an overdose and gary power was traded
23:13
for a spymaster back in 1962 the news my
23:21
fair lady the longest-running musical closed after two hundred two thousand seven hundred performances the diet tab
23:29
made its first appearance diet coke tab and Wilt Chamberlain 1962 scored 100
23:37
points in a basketball game
23:50
the economy at President John Kennedy Vice President Johnson population back
23:56
in 1962 186 million it's now and this is in the US now about 312 million life
24:04
expectancy 72 or 70 years old now 78 federal spending a hundred and six
24:12
billion and now it's three trillion almost four trillion federal debt 302
24:22
billion back then it was gosh I can't even read the number of zeros on that it's a lot more like 17 trillion
24:31
probably even more than that cost of a home eighteen thousand dollars a new car
24:37
gosh under three thousand dollars for a
24:43
new car postage stamp four cents a gallon of gas 31 cents and a dozen eggs
24:49
54 cents gallon of milk 49 cents some of the things that that we experience back

30:00
we know where you got them we're going to spend a little time just kind of
30:07
going through and talking about some classmates what we just went through I
30:13
was surprised too to be a person won't be able to find all of that information but but it is also kind of brought back
30:19
a lot of memories and some of those things I haven't thought about the long time the movies how much a house cost and how much of Caracalla it's
30:26
incredible where we are today
30:33
what we what we want to do is you want to go through and see if we can recognize everybody in the chair but
30:40
before we do that mr. coach Ray arc
30:46
slavin and his wife just came in where are they
31:00
coach appreciate you being here I have some had some good times had some bad
31:06
times action when you start making us run around the baseball field but that
31:12
wasn't any fun but glad that you're here glad that you had really had an impact on my lap we appreciate that that there
31:21
is some there's some people here that we
31:26
just want to kind of go through it and kind of make a comment about everybody night I didn't see Jimmy price when he
31:32
came in is he here but Jimmy work for the highway department in the inspection
31:38
area for of most of his life and he also
31:44
has built some houses as a result of I guess is a good wages and income from
31:50
there but if you take a look at a lot of the houses that he built they should look like they have a lot of highway
31:56
department gravel and tarred some side how many I guess it's I guess it's easy
32:02
to to build those houses when you're working in a in a maintenance area like that but sorry that Jimmy can't be here
32:09
he was supposed to be here tonight those asphalt roof swimming yeah okay and
32:15

32:43
taking a trip to California next week and say that it couldn't do both but I
32:50
played baseball with Michael och and really sorry that he can't be here there
32:56
was a there was a guy who actually when I when I send out these slips of
33:01
information set to originate he sent back inside I just don't understand what you want I don't understand what kind of
33:07
trivia you want and I said my god Jim body here you're the most intelligent
33:16
person I know you're the handsomest guy high school Ian most athletic you went
33:21
to Baylor you were a stud its Bigler you went off to to Brown University it took
33:27
you a few years to get out of school yeah and then and then after he got out
33:34
of school he just kept going to school every day as a as a research or at some
33:42
place but ended up in California and kept going to school there even though
33:48
they was working there and Jim I wished I had your problem trying to figure out
33:54
what to write on that sheet that you're an easy one you're an easy one he loves
34:00
to fly fish too he flies this case
34:05
that's kind of an oriental way of saying fly its kind of prize fly fish front hip
34:12
lifers
34:18
even ones are yours bud well okay but I
34:25
left's again in the summer of nineteen sixty-two and not return who I'm a
34:33
therapeutic and spiritual counselor and master hypnotist therapist now
34:39
hypnotherapist you're sleepy that's
34:45
great she's got your honor yeah no she couldn't make it either bappi dermal and
34:54
his wife have worked in the I guess the military school is far but almost their
35:00
whole career Bobby spent a few years and Austin working there and then he then he
35:06
went overseas and was working in the military defense military skills one of
35:12
the things that Bobby put on his list was that he has me going to think about this now just alpaugh and actually get
35:19
mr. day again to do the calculation but but Bobby says that he has every issue
35:25
of national geographic magazine since nineteen sixty seven except for seven
35:32
issues I think about that pack where's fat what do you do with those what
35:47
off with her
35:53
Bobby you know if you took him out of the house it rise about six feet dry
35:59
that's that's a lot of magazine now if they were some other magazine I could
36:07
understand that national grab geographic okay but you probably go back and do a
36:13
lot of research with those every day no doubt okay avid sports fan season ticket
36:20
holder the university in Texans have been through college world series the Rose Bowl and many foreign countries
36:26
which does include austin of course that's Mary Ellen Garcia bench hook'em
36:33

36:39
Series College Mercer is the world's bowls and every place to go Carolyn of fries avid bowler for 50 years and
36:48
here's something that you know I don't how do you keep up with this how do you even go to the title office as often and
36:55
hit 49 cars or party eight cars good grief do you still own all of them you
37:03
must be over your heart on our own bills for boats yet since nineteen sixty what
37:15
do you do you have more than one at one time I'll bet your driveway is fun
37:23
that's Otto ligament good pretty good
37:29
yeah I bet your wife really loves you to that chick ok the next I have been a
37:42
school principal for 20 years and have traveled to every state in the United States / my new career as a Realtor
37:52
imaging Belcher bedroom the great John
38:01
couldn't be here he was he was planning on be hearing at being here and his doctor told that you really shouldn't
38:07
fly he has a minor problem he said you really should fine but bring it has had
38:13
kind of an amazing career he is the Dean of the Palm Springs campus of the
38:22
University of California or California State University and he's also I think a
38:27
lawyer and has done some remodeling of some mid-century home so brains been keeping pretty busy next I enjoyed
38:36
building and fly model airplanes and have donated a kidney to my daughter that's a courageous act Lauren's
38:43
freezing
38:49
I told roads while ago that he really really really makes me mad he sent me an
38:55
email I think on Thursday saying he wasn't going to be there last night because he went in his from brenham and
39:01
Brennan has this festival every year about this time and you can get all you
39:08
could eat Blue Bell ice cream for six dollars we should have we should have
39:14
been in brenham yesterday we could have done some damage you know Jim body I
39:24
don't know if you if you remember this but but Jim was that the person selected
39:30
in our class as most likely to succeed going to school well just you know I
39:38
don't know what the voting criteria was I didn't vote for him I don't know but
39:43
but nevertheless somehow he got voted and voted to to be the one that most
39:50
likely to succeed well there's a lady who we should have recommended because
39:55
she I don't have done a fantastic job in the position that she's in and somebody
40:00
probably that that we really haven't seen or kept up with that much and that's gerald heebner her last name is
40:08
case in town she is a head of the department at the University of Texas at
40:13
Arlington I in the the nursing area and Carol is dr. carol has done a fantastic
40:20
job got a fantastic position in really holes and import status there so Jim
40:29
only if we knew we could have voted for Cara
40:37
no yeah hey careful with this one I'm gonna be very carefully I was the only
40:45
this is a quote from the author I was the only person in our class to play four sports in high school and that
40:54
would be Tebow dodgeballs crap basketball good model and spit bone and
41:02
also I had a position in the German air defense program that would be Bob Iger this hearing another person that I've
41:13
been a real sad that she couldn't be here is a Beverly kill Hoffman Beverly's
41:18
mom died not long ago and she made the trip down and just couldn't due to two trips in a shorter period but if you if
41:25
you haven't kept up with Beverly she is a tremendous cyclist and also ohe in one
41:35
example she cycled for over 140 miles in one trip so she gets after the other
41:43
thing that she does is canoe and she canoe down the Panama Canal which is about a 60 mile trip so god bless her
41:53
she lives in actually I'm going to say this it real quick seguin
42:05
I'm going to say it again see Washington
42:11
Washington State the gain is felled a little differently than this again the
42:16
cheat lives in sequim yeah but it's close I always get confused when I see I
42:22
think she's living in seguin and she's not a game it's a spelling nation it's a spelling issue but she lives in
42:27
Washington that's easy okay bicycle over
42:36
every month pass in Colorado and have built over 10 miles of trails in the
42:42
Texas Hill Country that would be attributed to George blue somebody that
42:49
just think they're a little while ago and gosh I'm happy to share because I'm I went to grade school with her Clarice
42:55

43:01
borrow some money she too at one time hit the lottery and didn't didn't hit
43:08

43:14
borrow some money Clarice I've missed you next I have attended over 370 to
43:25

43:38
carol was out to el ranchito last night and for all that were there Eddie I just
43:46
noticed that you're there last night Cara was there and when she too with her
43:53
family and they after they left they
43:58
took her to a hospital in San Antonio northeast baptist hospital carol has has
44:05
had some problems with cancer and it has gone to her brain so we need to keep
44:11
Carol in our prayers the the hospital again if you want to send any kind of
44:17
good wishes is northeast baptist hospital in San Antonio so we need to
44:24
keep carrollton our prayers and make offer good wishes to it Babs
44:35
wouldn't much that bab sent him but i think that we all need to really applaud
44:41
her she is a 10 year survivor of cancer and just talking to her last night she's
44:48
